Pay to play Polland outed

By Daniel Greer | 2 years ago

The Republican establishment has a perpetual credibility problem. For this reason, they must constantly recruit conservatives to their cause.  The new establishment team member had better learn to cut throats, because after their juicing the establishment no longer needs them and the Texans who once listened to and respected them find another ally.

Over the last year this describes the actions of several politicos in Texas and partially explains why Texans got a lackluster session.

Recently Gary Polland, the writer of the “Conservative Review” newsletter, was identified as being a pay-to-play publication by a Houston Chronicle blog. Polland received a $40,000 contribution from Houston’s Democrat Mayor Annise Parker that was followed shortly by a glowing review.

According to The Chronicle this isn’t the first time Polland has taken a position after being compensated. He also did a 180 on red light cameras after receiving payment, writing in support of the intrusive measure.

Gary Polland, using his publication the “Conservative Review”, endorsed Joe Straus for Speaker in 2010.

In 2011 House Republicans were treated to a session of brow-beating by angry liberals thanks to the failed maneuvering of Jim Pitts to raise taxes by drafting an intentionally difficult draft budget.

This leadership style was predictable and should of been avoided.

Conservatives have known for some time that Polland should drop the “conservative” moniker.
